Cosmetic companies do not have to disclose all of the ingredients that they use in their products. No matter how much you read a label, you will never know what is included in that all-inclusive term parfum. Not only do they not have to disclose each ingredient, but many cosmetic products contain harmful ingredients.

Try to Look Pretty Without Poisoning Yourself
On January 9, 2012, Environmental Defence launched a 60 second video to highlight the dangers of the cosmetic products that many women use today. It’s an entertaining 60 seconds that sends a strong message to the viewer. Many of the cosmetics that we use today, like lipstick and mascara, include ingredients that are harmful to you. This is great! I have currently become more and more aware of the ingredients used in cosmetics (as I use a lot!) a great website to find safe brands/items is http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ you can look through their database of products, or make your own reports about the stuff you own if you can’t find them on the database, by entering the ingredients. I binned so many cosmetics after discovering how bad the chemicals in them were 😦 you have to be careful even with stuff like Lush, who are 100% natural as they say..

Thanks for your comments! The Skin Deep site is a great resource. I use it all the time. The Good Guide is another helpful one that you might want to check out. And yes, it’s definitely a good idea to always read the labels!
